An anti-crime exercise in Couva on Saturday led to the arrest of two men in connection with the seizure of 53.40 kilogrammes of marijuana.
The exercise, conducted between 5.30 pm and 9.30 pm, included officers of the Northern Division’s Gang Unit, Northern Division Task Force, Area Central and Northern Division Task Force, Area East.
Acting on information, the officers stopped a grey AD wagon with a male occupant along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway near the Couva overpass.
A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding 50 packages containing 53.40 kilogrammes of marijuana. The drug has an estimated street value of $534,000.
The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old from Dow Village, California was immediately arrested.
A second suspect, a 49-year-old Arouca man was subsequently arrested in Arouca in connection with the drug find.
Investigations are ongoing.
