Coronavirus and Cannabis: After rush on Denver dispensaries, industry adjusts to new safety measures

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock did not initially include liquor stores and recreational Cannabist stores as essential businesses when he issued a stay-at-home order for the city on Monday. The order would have caused the businesses to close Tuesday at 5 p.m. until at least April 10. Shortly after the order was issued Monday long lines began forming outside dispensaries around Denver as residents rushed to stock up. Within a few hours Hancock reversed the decision, stating that liquor stores and dispensaries could stay open if they practiced “extreme social distancing.”
