An Iraqi native who’s in the United States on a Green Card faces one felony charge after reportedly being caught with a large quantity of marijuana in his vehicle.
Amer Qeryaqos Toma, 53 of Madison Heights, was released from the Oakland County Jail after being given a $10,000 bond at his arraignment Sept. 28, one day after he was arrested during a traffic stop in Rochester Hills.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Toma was driving in a full-size Chevrolet van when he was pulled over for speeding last Thursday afternoon , in the area of Auburn Road and Primrose Lane. Deputies determined the vehicle was unregistered and impounded it. Inside, they reportedly found several garbage bags and boxes containing a total of 88 pounds of marijuana.
Toma is charged with one count of manufacturing/delivering more than 5 kilograms of a controlled substance. He’s due back in 52-3 District Court on Oct. 11 before Judge Lisa Asadoorian.
