Barbados: Soldier Found With Weed In Pocket

A soldier appeared in court to answer to the charge of having $10 BDS worth of marijuana in his possession.

Tyrell Shamar Gibbons of St Patricks in Christ Church pleaded guilty to the March 31 charge of having 0.5 grams of marijuana.

The facts of the case revealed that the 28-year-old and four other males were travelling in a motorcar along the East Coast road in St Andrew when the vehicle was stopped by officers of the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF).

Gibbons consented to a search and a grease-proof wrapping containing cannabis was discovered in the right rear pants pocket. He admitted knowledge and ownership of the controlled substance.

Magistrate Deidre McKenna ordered a pre-sentencing report and granted Gibbons bail in the sum of $1,500 with one surety.

The case was adjourned until September 4, 2020.
