Portugal: Bust in Algarve sees nine arrested and six tons of hashish seized

In a major drug bust in the Algarve this week, PJ criminal police arrested nine men of different nationalities and seized five trucks containing six tons of hashish.

The men, aged from 35 to 55, are believed to be part of an international drug trafficking network which would smuggle significant amounts of drugs into Europe through the Algarve.

Operation ‘Azimute’ was carried out in Faro, Albufeira and Loulé.

The news has been confirmed by the police force in a statement sent to newsrooms today.

PJ police say the group was “well-organised, able to move large amounts of drugs and included members of different nationalities”.

The suspects are due to be heard at a court in Lisbon. Meanwhile, PJ has confirmed that investigations will continue.
