LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – For the first time, the peaceful town of Atok in Benguet was rocked by a raid in two marijuana plantations within its jurisdiction that led to the eventual destruction of P8.279 million of fully grown marijuana plants by elements of Benguet Provincial Police Office.
Benguet Provincial Police Director Colonel Elmer Ragay led the eradication operation and said a concerned citizen informed the police about the marijuana plantations located in the mountainous area of Sitio Salawikan, Barangay Pasdong, Atok,Benguet.
Troops backed by elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) went on a three-hour hike before they could reach the first plantation site with 4,800 fully grown marijuana plants in a 600-square meter lot.
At an adjacent lot, the operatives discovered more than 2,760 fully grown marijuana plants, 116 kilos of dried marijuana leaves, four kilos of marijuana seeds.
All the seized marijuana were burned on-site.
