Dunedin South MP Clare Curran has admitted she was once busted for the possession of cannabis.

In an interview with the University of Otago student magazine Critic-Te Arohi, the Labour politician said she was arrested for the possession of “less than a gram” of cannabis in her youth and fined $50.

Curran was asked whether she had been arrested, and if so what for.

“This is quite some decades ago, I was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, less than a gram can I just say, so it wasn’t very much and I was fined $50.”
