32-year-old Joel Helding and his 25-year-old wife Valerie Flores-Helding were arrested in Trempealeau County in January.
The State Patrol said they were driving separate vehicles, and both took off when law enforcement tried to pull them over. After a chase, they were both stopped and taken into custody without incident.
Police say they were bringing the marijuana to Wisconsin from California.
Both pleaded guilty to drug charges this summer. Joel Helding also had two handguns in his possession.
Joel Helding was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison. Valerie Flores-Helding was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, Wausau and Merrill Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Wisconsin State Patrol all played a role in the investigation.
