Trinidad & Tobago: Police destroy 800 marijuana trees

Eight hundred fully grown marijuana trees and approximately 300 marijuana seedlings were found and destroyed by Cedros Police during a marijuana eradication exercise in Granville yesterday.

Around 3 pm on Thursday, Cpl (Ag) Boodhai, PC Ramkissoon and PC Boochoon, were on patrol along Syfoo Trace, Granville, when on reaching the vicinity of the recreation ground, they observed a man carrying a brownish coloured crocus bag on his shoulder. On seeing the marked police vehicle, the man ran into a forested area.

The officers gave chase, however, the man escaped. Cpl (Ag) Boodhai then observed a track leading further into the forest and followed the it for 20 minutes and when he found an open area where they discovered the marijuana trees and seedlings over an expanse of approximately three lots of land. The marijuana tress and seedlings with an estimated value of $100,000 were uprooted and destroyed.
