Florida: Woman Arrested Growing Over 100 Cannabis Plants

ANTHONY — Members of the Unified Drug Enforcement Strike Team seized more than 100 marijuana plants and arrested a 34-year-old woman for cultivation of marijuana, trafficking in cannabis and possession of a place for manufacturing or trafficking.

The bust occurred at 9951 NE 30th Court in Anthony on Friday, drug officials said.

Authorities were called to the home after another woman was concerned about the home’s condition and called sheriff’s deputies, which led deputies to call UDEST agents.

Agents showed up at the home and interviewed the woman. While talking with her, they saw a woman entering the residence who they approached as she was leaving.

UDEST officials said the woman, later identified as Christie Anne Fannon, smelled like marijuana and had marijuana on her clothes, which led agents to get a search warrant for the residence.

Entering the home, officials said they found an elaborate grow operation inside the four bedroom, three bath home.

All the bedrooms were converted to show the different growth and production stages of the marijuana plants, agents said.

For example, officials said one room had small or baby plants, and in another room, the plants were believed to be 5-feet tall.

Authorities said they found instructions on how to take care for the plants. The instructions included the amount of lights, temperature and water needed for each stage of growth, officials said.

The exact amount of plants and their weight are still being processed by agents who are still investigating the find.

Fannon declined to talk with drug officials and was arrested. She was booked into the Marion County Jail at 2:29 a.m. Saturday. Fannon does not have a local criminal record.
