Canada: RCMP seize hundreds of cannabis plants following traffic stop near Kindersley

A 37-year-old B.C. man is facing charges after hundreds of cannabis plants were seized by members of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s roving traffic unit.

RCMP reported Friday that officers from the traffic unit were working in the Kindersley area on the morning of March 4, alongside members of the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol.

After stopping a vehicle headed eastbound on Highway 7 for what a police media release termed a “vehicle equipment regulation offence,” officers reportedly “made several observations” that led them to believe the driver was involved in trafficking cannabis.

Police arrested the driver. A subsequent search of his vehicle allegedly uncovered some 747 cannabis plants.

The driver was charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution, distributing more than four cannabis plants, possession of more than four cannabis plants, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon. He is to remain in custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for March 31 in Kindersley Provincial Court.
