Australia: Queensland Police claim to have seized $1.9 million worth of drugs

The Brisbane Times reports….Five people were charged with 109 offences as police seized almost 600 cannabis plants worth $1,485,000 and 64 kilograms of dried cannabis valued at a little more than $426,000 were seized.

On Thursday, police searched a Pacific Pines address and found chemicals believed to be used in the production of cannabis.

Police charged two people in a Surfers Paradise unit with drug trafficking after allegedly finding a large quantity of cash and cannabis in a vehicle on the premises.

Two units on Peninsula Drive at Surfers Paradise and a storage facility on Central Park Avenue in Ashmore led to others allegedly involved in drug distribution.

The first alleged growhouse was at an address on Wallaby Drive at Mudgeeraba, which included eight rooms transformed to produce hydroponic cannabis.

Almost 160 plants valued at $155,000, dried cannabis and items used in drug production, including lighting equipment, filters, irrigation equipment and chemicals were found, police alleged.

The second alleged growhouse, believed to contain 209 plants, dried cannabis worth more than $116,00, equipment and chemicals, was at a Yarrimbah Drive property at Nerang.

The third location allegedly housed 227 plants, equipment, dried cannabis and chemicals at a Leyshon Court address at Bonogin.

A 45-year-old woman, a 57-year-old woman, a 44-year-old woman, a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old man have been charged with multiple offences, including trafficking, production and possession of dangerous drugs offences.

The group appeared at the Southport Magistrates Court on Friday morning and is due to face court again on June 21.

Police also raided two storage sheds on Friday at Ormeau and Gave, where they allegedly found more cannabis and equipment.
