A 57-year-old tried to disguise his massive illegal cannabis grow as an urban jungle but was busted by the utility company

A man’s attempt to pass his homemade illegal cannabis cultivation operation as a trendy, urban jungle décor vibe has failed — thanks to some classic snitching from his local power company.

Wu Qiang Zhong of Visalia, California, was arrested last Friday after police say they more than 800 cannabis plants growing inside his two-story residence, Your Central Valley reports.

According to authorities, a worker at the Southern California Edison, the primary electricity supplier in Southern California, tipped off cops at the Visalia Police Department about suspected illicit cannabis grow in the area.

Using info and an address gleaned from the electricity snitch, police obtained a search warrant for the property and subsequently carried out a thorough investigation of the residence, quickly discovering 823 weed plants.

California law permits residents of legal age (21 and over) to cultivate up to six plants at home for personal, adult-use consumption. Having slightly exceeded the legal limit, the 57-year-old has been charged with cultivation of marijuana and booked at Tulare County Pre-trial Facility.

The penalty for cultivating more than six plants depends on the accused person’s criminal background, age, and other relevant facts in a specific case. Those convicted of cultivating cannabis illegally can face fines of up to $10,000,  up to three years in state prison, and/or probation.
